This Saturday Night will be remembered for the frigid weather. It was unseasonably cold in upstate NY that weekend, with the temperature dropping quickly into the 30s that night. There is an excellent Copperpot video online of this show, including a poignant Seek Up to start and a classic version of Idea of You showing Dave with a large scarf around his neck as his frosty voice sang out. Dave joked about the cheap portable heaters the band's crew had placed onstage to help the players keep warm, saying that it reminded him of his Grandpa’s porch.

These shows in Camden took place after a week that felt particularly depressing given current affairs and world events. In typical fashion, the Band provided positive vibes and uplifting tunes and on the first night, the rare and unreleased tune “Good, Good Time” was played in the Acoustic set. On the second night they played it in the Electric Set.

Also see my Post with Photos for Night 2 of this weekend. The Photos here suggest a strong Boyd night.

A good, good time tonight…

These shows in Camden took place after a week that felt particularly depressing given current affairs and world events. In typical fashion, the Band provided positive vibes and uplifting tunes. On the first night, the rare and unreleased tune “Good, Good Time” was played in the Acoustic set; the entire song is sort of a rap by Dave over a repeating guitar riff, with no chorus or bridge. On the second night they played it in the Electric Set and nailed it. The lyrics to this one seemed to vary whenever its played, and had evolved over time.

“He said, she said, I said, you said
Gotta be something more
Cuz sticks and stones will break your bones
But words will start a war
Let's have a good good time tonight

You and me, you and me we’ll make the whole world right
Let’s have a good good time tonight…

Don’t let it be said that we didn’t give it our best
Good good time tonight

To be with you
Shine on your light
Good good time tonight”

On this weekend I saw DMB and Phish on back to back nights, after touring several civil war battlefields for a couple of days. One big Civil War buff here, but had not been to Manassas or Antietam before. Of course, Bristow is right by Manassas where two important battles of the Civil War were fought. On the way to Mannassas I saw Gettysburgh, Frederick MD and the Antietam Battlefield. See photos and comments on my main photo /blog site.

Amazing diversity of songs and phenomenal setlist. Warren fitting right in … with Neil Young’s “Down by the River” played with great passion; the ‘‘Lovely Ladies” on background vocals and the fans singing loudly.

There is a wonderful Copperpot video available online, My photos cover a lot of goodies including Boyd’s big solos, the “industrial" stage set for the Acoustic set, and some nice looks up at Dave and Carter as they mingled a bit after the show. The sequence with Warren bears a resemblance to what’s seen in the Copperpot video, but my angle is a bit more extreme and I think it makes the shots pretty interesting.

Another classic night at SPAC, again with Bela. This was the weekend of the Fare Thee Well shows in Chicago, and while Bela joined on Banjo in the acoustic set, the opening G major scale notes of Friend of the Devil started to come forth, instantly recognizable. Copperpot’s video captures the event magnificently.
